Accommodation

The ship's Explorer Suites are the largest in river cruising, and all staterooms feature a private veranda. With hotel-style beds, spacious wardrobes, a flat-panel television, private bad with shower and premium bath products, you will feel right at home.

Explorer Suite

The Explorer Suites onboard have hotel-style beds measuring 79 inches x 71 inches with optional twin-bed configuration, panoramic windows that open onto private wraparound veranda, a private bathroom with bathtub, shower and premium bath products as well as bathrobe and slippers available upon request. Guests have a telephone, refrigerator, safe, hair dryer, bottled water replenished daily, individual climate control, sofa in seating area, space under bed for storing suitcases and a walk-in closet with wooden hangers. Voltage within the Suite is 220V and 110V, and guests have the use of two 32-inch flat-panel TVs with premium entertainment package including CNN and other English-language programming.

The Suites onboard have hotel-style beds measuring 79 inches x 35 inches with optional twin-bed configuration, panoramic windows that open onto private wraparound veranda, a private bathroom with shower and premium bath products as well as bathrobe and slippers available upon request. Due to the nature of Viking cruises, they do not maintain specific facilities or services for children aboard cruise vessels. In the circumstances you and all members of your party must be aged 18 or over on or before the day you are scheduled to embark on the cruise vessel.

Entertainment

Entertainment on river vessels is never going to be an all-singing all-dancing spectacular, but from the moment a colorful lion dancer welcomes passengers onboard, Viking stages a small but perfectly formed entertainment program that fills in the gaps between shore excursions. 

Emerald Bar

Located in the Lounge, the bar is lively and inviting; a gathering place for guests to have a drink and hear live music every evening.

Observation Lounge

This spacious bar area, featuring large picture windows and about three dozen small tables with comfortable chairs, is an excellent place to relax over a drink and enjoy conversation or a book while you watch the scenery, or meet up with friends before and after meals. It is located on the same level as the Suites. The 24-hour coffee station is adjacent to the Observation Lounge, so you can enjoy a delicious coffee drink or get something from the Lounge Bar.

Sun Deck

Enjoy sunshine, fresh air and sweeping views of the scenery as you sail through the Yangtze’s stunning Three Gorges region and beyond. Stand at the railings or relax in a comfortable deck chair. The observation deck is covered for those who prefer shade.

Enrichment

Viking offer a series of onboard multimedia talks to shed light on the history and culture of the places you visit. Topics may include the rise and fall of the Khmer empire, the archaeological excavations at Angkor, a history of Vietnam and Cambodia, a history and culture of the Champa people, a key words and phrases in the local languages. These presentations provide a context for your own observations, enhancing your travel experience.

Hands-on demonstrations, cooking classes, traditional dance performances, and local tastings. These in-depth experiences are included as an essential part of discovering more about the places through which you cruise, and each activity is planned specifically to illuminate each itinerary.

Dining

Viking Emerald is the only Yagtze ship to have a state-of-the-art western kitchen, so you can indulge in expertly prepared Asian and European dishes.

You have choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not just in food selection, but also in where and how you enjoy them. Greet the morning with a croissant and cappuccino on deck, or begin your day with a sumptuous buffet breakfast. Have a casual lunch or dinner al fresco, or join friends in the restaurant. Open seating allows you to mingle with the same guests every evening or meet someone new each day.

Deck 2 Restaurant

All meals are served in the Deck 2 restaurant and are open-seating. Circular tables seat eight people and feature a lazy susan, a revolving glass section ensuring the smooth passage of shared dishes and other items around the table without the need to pass them.

Breakfast is a leisurely affair from 7 to 9 or 9:30 a.m., depending on shore excursions. The expansive buffet of meats, cheeses, cereals and pastries includes delicious homemade yogurt with unusual flavors like green tea, a fresh fruit station and healthy choice section. Small fruit smoothies are served at the table with juice and hot drinks. For the full works, the buffet chefs cook omelets and hot dishes to order, and for table service, passengers can order from the menu, which includes buttermilk pancakes, French toast, porridge (oatmeal), eggs Benedict, crispy bacon, sausages and hash browns. 

Health and Fitness

Cruise into total body wellness. Start your mornings with an exercise program on the Sky Deck (weather permitting) featuring stretching and yoga, attend helpful lectures on healthy lifestyles, and enjoy healthy but delicious dining options, crafted daily on board.

Located on the Sun deck is a beauty salon that offers cuts for men and women, hair-styling, facials, manicures and pedicures.

The gym is open throughout the day and has a treadmill, elliptical cross-trainer, two static bikes and a selection of free weights. Towels and bottled water are provided, and users have the pleasant diversion of looking out onto the river and passing scenery as they work out. Large windows in front of the gym equipment can be opened to provide natural air-conditioning.

Located on the Sun Deck is a magnificent spa treatment room operated by a professional masseur.
