What to expect from MS Trollfjord
Overview
Sailing both The Svalbard Line and The North Cape Line, MS Trollfjord is an homage both to Norwegian nature and our 130-year heritage sailing the Norwegian coast.
Locally sourced natural materials such as wood and stone feature prominently throughout the ship’s furnishings, reflecting the beauty of the fjords we sail through.
The style of décor is classic, timeless, and unique in our fleet. You’ll notice details and flourishes that evoke a sense of nostalgia, harking back to a golden era of exclusive small-ship sailing.

Gratuities
It is not common practice to tip on Hurtigruten ships on the coastal voyage, but if you feel that crew members should be rewarded for providing exceptional service, tip boxes are placed in the restaurant together with envelopes.
Entertainment
In between ports, be as active as you choose. Expect show cooking from our chefs, handicraft sessions in the library, and thought-provoking presentations that you can watch in person or livestream to your cabin.
Regular photography workshops reveal tips for shooting the perfect image, from capturing the Northern Lights to zooming in on polar wildlife. When you feel confident, you can hire camera equipment on board and practice what you learnt on your next on-shore excursion.
1893 Bar
Settle down in a comfortable chair behind the huge windows on the two-storey observation deck and take your pick of drinks laced with the flavours and remarkable stories of the Norwegian coast. We offer a wide selection of international and local Norwegian beverage.
In 1893 Bar, every mouthful tells a story of the Norwegian coast floating by outside. Our mixologists blend the best Norwegian products, creating cocktails that bring you closer to the legends, people, and places you’re sailing past.
Try cocktails handcrafted with Arctic gin from the Lyngen Alps, liquor infused with the rays of the Midnight Sun, or vodka brightened by the golden taste of cloudberries. Signature cocktails are made purely from Norwegian spirits and inspired by Viking tales of Valhalla, the long days of a Norwegian summer, or 1,000 years of apple cultivation on the steep slopes of the Hardangerfjord, ‘the orchard of Norway’. Ask your bartender for more stories to savour as you sip.
Every day between 15.30 and 16.30, we lay on a mini buffet of fresh fruit and cake, too.

Enrichment
Sailing both The Svalbard Line and The North Cape Line , MS Trollfjord is an homage both to Norwegian nature and our 130-year heritage sailing the Norwegian coast.
Seasonal Excursions
To further explore Norway, you can choose from a wide variety of seasonal excursions, graded according to four effort levels. Some are more active, while others focus on local history and culture.
These experiences take you on land to see iconic places, such as the famous North Cape and the magnificent Lofoten Islands. If you want more challenging activities, sign up for kayaking, snowmobiling, or dog-sledding.
Excursions with Hurtigruten
Enhance your voyage with our wide range of optional excursions that allow you to delve deeper into the dramatic landscapes, rich history, and charming culture of Norway and Svalbard. We offer more than 130 excursions up and down the coast, each run by local suppliers who are ready to showcase the wonders of their home.
Take your pick from a palette of active adventures such as kayaking along Ålesund’s waterways, quad biking to the North Cape or snowshoeing in Tromsø. If you’re interested in history, you can join a World War II tour in Kristiansand or explore the hidden rooms of Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim.
There are plenty of opportunities to sample the delicacies of the Norwegian coast, too, with visits to the world’s northernmost brewery and boat trips to go king crab fishing with locals. We also recommend cultural visits that introduce you to Sámi culture or to the workings of a family-run dairy farm in Lofoten.
An excursion for every season
While many excursions are offered year-round, some are season specific. Summer is a glorious time to be in Norway and Svalbard, with a variety of activities that make the most of the long, leisurely days of the Midnight Sun. Why not enjoy a RIB safari in search of Sea Eagles or a guided e-bike tour around the island of Senja?
The cooler weather in autumn, winter, and spring turns Norway into a wonderland of snow, best enjoyed by dog sled or on cross-country skis. You could also try your hand at snowmobiling, hopefully with the Northern Lights dancing above.
Activities that are right for you
Our diverse excursions cater not just for varied interests but also for different mobility levels, so you can choose the activity that’s right for you.
We offer four distinct physical levels that cater to all - from accessible museum visits to challenging hikes that require a good level of fitness. Certain activities are even wheelchair-friendly, ensuring inclusivity for all.
For additional details about the levels of fitness required for each excursion, check out our FAQ section below.

Hikers Heaven
Norwegians are well known for their love of the outdoors. In fact, their passion is so strong it has its own name: friluftsliv.
While on board, the Expedition Team will encourage you to embrace this uniquely Norwegian notion by taking part in their handpicked hikes and activities. Enjoy learning more about the local region’s history, geology, and culture as you explore with those who know it best.
Local Food Tasting
Some of these specialist lectures are combined with tastings of seasonal specialties on deck.
Try fresh shrimps in the Lyngenfjord in spring or cloudberries during autumn. In winter we offer freshly cooked fishcakes, while “Trollsoup” is on the menu when we sail into the Trollfjord in summer.

Dining
The art of exquisite cuisine
Savour the rich bounty of the Norwegian coast, crafted into sublime dishes that showcase Nordic gastronomy at its best.
Culinary Encounters
The produce and culinary heritage of Norway’s coast is at the heart of your experience on board MS Trolljord. New ports mean new suppliers to work with, new ingredients to play with and new stories to tell. The ship’s peerless menus, cocktails and food courses are inspired by them all, as well as archive menus and age-old Norwegian preservation techniques.
MS Trollfjord’s strikingly reimagined three restaurants, bar and new live show cooking features offer an exciting flavour of Norway’s past, present and future. Each one embraces traditional preservation methods that have been tried and trusted by Norwegians through 1,000 Arctic winters, such as drying, fermenting and salting. On board, you can eat dry-aged beef served by a chef with a story about the meat’s provenance, drink beer made from water sourced in Trollfjord, and learn all about the distinctly Nordic spirit aquavit.
Best of all, the journey from fjord or field to fork is short but deliciously sweet. As we sail, you’ll pass the very fjords that gave us our fish, the mountains that grew our herbs and the slopes that reared our lamb.
Flora Restaurant
MS Trollfjord’s main restaurant, Flora, is inspired by Norway’s edible herbs, berries, mushrooms, flowers, fruit and vegetables. This incredible treasury of produce influences every part of your dining experience here, from the herb-infused mayonnaises to the petals and scrolls of the distinctly Norwegian Rosemaling folk art design that unfurls across the restaurant’s decor.
Depending on what’s in season, you could try dishes such as lightly smoked Arctic char, plant-based Wellington with sugar kelp confit Trøndersopp from our own kelp farm, or flavoursome wild game enriched by time spent grazing on berries, herbs and flowers.
When can I dine in Flora? Come here for self-service breakfast buffets and pre-seated a la carte lunches and dinners. Flora is also the venue for the gala dinner towards the end of your voyage.
Røst - Arctic Fine Dining
Inspired by the ancient fish bank of Røst in the Lofoten Islands, our fine dining restaurant is a homage to the produce that helped established Norway: fish. Røst’s menu is based on the flora and fauna that flourishes beneath the ship and along the coast.
Alongside the stockfish that Norway’s economy – and heritage – was built on, your dishes could include salmon or reindeer as well as more unexpected ingredients such as seaweed, kelp, Arctic pearls (a vegan roe) and sea urchins. Our resident sommeliers are on hand to help pair each dish with the perfect wine.
This attention to detail extends to the restaurant’s decor. Modern art, gold accents and an open kitchen perfectly complement the refined Scandinavian design, which draws on the undulating lines of a salmon.
When can I dine in Røst? Suite guests can choose to dine in Røst for all meals, including a daily, Norwegian-inspired afternoon tea complete with delectable macarons, scones, cakes, and sandwiches, washed down with a glass of sparkling wine. For dinner, Suite guests must make a reservation directly at the restaurant.
Cabin guests can also upgrade to dine at Røst through the app, directly at the restaurant or through the Restaurant Manager.
Brasserie Árran
Brasserie Árran is our way of showing our respect and gratitude to the Sámi people and everything they have done for Norway. Árran is a northern Sámi word for the fire at the heart of a lavvo (a temporary dwelling used by the Sámi people for thousands of years). It’s a place for people to gather and share stories, which is exactly what we hope you’ll do in Brasserie Árran. The restaurant decor’s use of dark wood, leather and rough-hewn stone creates a warm and rustic feel that reflects the hearty food on the menu.
Here, you can dine on traditional dishes with a modern twist such as bidos (a Sámi reindeer stew), souvas (sliced smoked reindeer meat) with lingonberry aioli, or pickled herring on rye bread with cured egg yolk.
When can I dine in Árran? Árran is open for lunch and dinner. Seating is open, so no reservations are required.
